Job Description:
We're a Little Different -Our mission is clear. We bring to life
a healing ministry through our compassionate care and exceptional
service. At Mercy, we believe in careers that match the unique
gifts of unique individuals - careers that not only make the most
of your skills and talents, but also your heart. Join us and
discover why Modern Healthcare Magazine named us in its "Top 100
Places to World". -Overview:The PCU is a unit that provides care to
patients age 18 and older requiring a higher level of care and
surveillance than a general med/surg floor but not presenting the
need for critical care in an intensive care unit. -The PCU patient
population at any given time is a cross sample of the hospital
census as a whole, just to a slightly more acute degree. For this
reason, a broad scope is needed for those wishing to work in PCU as
they care for all systems from neuro to cardiac to GI and beyond.
Patients in the progressive care unit require nursing assessment
and reassessment every 2 to 4 hours. Clinically, they may present
with a variety of medical needs including but not limited to: New
onset asymptomatic dysrhythmia responding to treatment;
hypertensive or hypotensive urgency; hemodynamically stable
myocardial infarction; stable neurological deficits;
confusion/agitation/substance withdrawal; respiratory distress or
evidence of compromised gas exchange when hemodynamically stable
and responding to treatment; maintenance/initiation of BIPAP/CPAP
or high flow oxygen therapy in which further deterioration is
unlikely after initiation. Unit specific certifications required
include ACLS, basic dysrhythmia interpretation, NIHSS and ASLS,
these classes are offered through Mercy and should be completed
upon 90 days from hire. -Qualifications: -
